Parcels for Ukraine

Parcels for Ukraine

Achern. The local firefighters quickly got into their vehicles to drive from the Achern fire station to the Ukrainian border on the call-out “Christmas parcels for children in Ukraine”.

Five vehicles

Under the leadership of commander Michael Wegel (Achern), active members from Achern, Sasbach and Kappelrodeck were on hand to drive five vehicles to a base on the Polish-Ukrainian border, primarily to deliver Christmas relief supplies for children. The majority of the freight was provided by the Ortenau economic region (Nectanet), which had already helped to get aid convoys rolling for Ukraine the previous year with the support of fire departments. Now there were around 3500 small parcels for children to give them a tasty Christmas treat. Also on board were several pallets of food as well as winter shoes, blankets and warm clothing, which resulted from a collection by the fire department. The destination was around 30 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. According to Michael Wegel, the journey went smoothly and the command was: drive there, unload, drive home. This was the fourth convoy in 2022/2023 for the fire department, which covered several thousand kilometers to send an important signal of solidarity with the Ukrainian population from Achern and Ortenau.
